With the distance and the capabilities of Raymundo's Star Surfer, all they could tell about Skylar's distress signal was that it was in Lilstown California.
"You know," Lucky kept the signal map pulled up on half the screen, while they looked through ship diagnostics on the other. "Like I've said nth times before, your ship could teleport us there."
Raymundo was scrolling through a website of luxury car parts, trying to see if there was anything analogous for the Star Surfer's reception or precision of the tracker equipment.
"I am not teleporting." Raymundo looked up. "Half of my ship is cobbled together, and even if it wasn't, it's old."
"It is perfectly capable of transporting us with eighty-eight percent accuracy and survival rate."
"I'm still not teleporting thousands of miles when we can just take a quick plane ride. Getting us there safely and without raising suspicion if we just suddenly appear in front of people."
"It'll work for you." Lucky crossed their arms. "But your planes require forms of identification I don't have." Raymundo sighed. "And getting caught with fakes would only get me into trouble like Skylar."
The two started at each other for a few moments.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but," Raymundo lowered his phone, "I'll hook you up with Becky's passport so you can fly."
"But we would save so much time by teleporting."
"Lucky." Raymundo clicked his tongue. "I just offered to help you impersonate my girlfriend. Practically stealing her identity." Raymundo waved his phone through the air. "If that doesn't show how much I'm against teleportation, I'm not sure what will."
"Fine." Lucky crossed their arms. "We'll travel by plane."
"I'll start looking for tickets then." Raymundo opened a new tab on his phone and started searching.
"And in the meantime, you'll have to practice transforming some more."
"Okay." Raymundo sighed again at the price of tickets.
“Seriously Raymundo.” Lucky placed a hand over the phone screen. “I will train you.”
“I’m not sure-”
“Trust me.” Raymundo swallowed as Lucky leaned in close, their breath even smelling like Becky’s. “When I am done you will be able to transform into any human you see, or even imagine.”
“I’ll try.” The breath Raymundo had been holding came out slowly as Lucky returned to her post in front of the control panel screen.
John couldn’t wait for Lucky and Skylar to return to Qwortar.
